Lula Mae Dean, second child of (the late) Earl and Ludie Dean, was born October 31, 1936 in Saluda, SC. She departed this life at the Winthrop University Hospital, Mineola, NY, on October 26, 2017. Lula, (Sister) was a lifelong resident of the Inc. Village of Hempstead, NY, after having migrated from SC with her parents and brother Aaron as an infant.

Lula confessed Christ, joined the South Hempstead Baptist Church, at an early age and was baptized by (the late) Pastor Rev. Dr. William C. Evans. She spent most of her life as an active and vibrant member and served in the following capacities; Church Clerk & Trustee Board (50 + years each). Sunday School Superintendent and Pastor's Aid Ministry (10+ years each) - Traveler's Club member and Supervisor for the Junior Choir. Serving in the various ministries of this church was her life.

She graduated from Prospect Elementary and Hempstead High Schools. Lula's work career began as a teenager (mother's helper), Doubleday Book Company, Garden City NY, (Clerical) and later, Abraham and Strauss Department Store, Hempstead, NY (Asst. Magr., Loss Prevention). After retirement from A&S, she was employed at First Student (formerly Laidlaw0 School Bus Company Freeport, NY, for 20 years. During her young adult years, Lula also used to model clothing at local fashion shows. She was not afraid to venture out and try different things.

Lula was predeceased by her parents, Earl and Ludie Dean and brother, Aaron Dean.

Left to cherish many fond memories and to continue her legacy are two (2) devoted sisters, Florine and Sarah of the home, one (1) brother, Earl Dean, Jr. (Ida) of Virginia Beach, VA; two (2) nieces, Pamela Dean, Washington, DC and Paula Dean, Roosevelt , NY; five (5) nephews, Steven (Jennifer) Clarks, Earl Dean, III and Javan Dean all of Nassau County, NY, Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Dean of Queens, NY and Steven (Maria) Dean, Washington, DC; one grand-nephew, Aaron Jamal Dean and one (1) grandniece, Jalecia Dean, one (1) Godson, Steven White, Los Angeles, CA and a host of cousins, other relatives, a loving church family and close friends.

Homegoing Celebration will be held Thursday, 11:00 .m. November 2, 2017 at South Hempstead Baptist Church, Hempstead, NY. 

Carl C. Burnett Funeral Home of Hempstead, New York is in charge.

A Graveside Service and burial will be Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Rock Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Saluda, SC, conducted by the pastor Reverend Herbert Martin.

Butler and Sons Funeral Home is assisting the Dean Family here in Saluda, SC.
