Mr. Raymond Stevens

Saluda, SC:  Mr. Raymond Stevens, 82, of 3027 Old Chappells Ferry Road, died on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at his home.

He was born in Saluda County, SC, son of the late Willie and Leora Dozier Stevens. He received his education in the public schools of Saluda County, South Carolina. 

At an early age, he joined Willow Spring Baptist Church. He moved to Washington, DC, and united with Southern Baptist Church. He and his wife Sophia Minick Stevens was married in May 27, 1961, she passed away May 19, 2001 and they were Foster Parents and they fostered  many children. When his wife was alive he united with Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  He was a retired employee of Pepco Electric Company where he worked for 31 years. In 2003, Raymond moved back to Saluda, SC, to live and reunited with Willow Spring Baptist Church. 

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by siblings, Ebbie Stevens, Willie Stevens, Jr., Olin Stevens, Bennie L. Stevens, Henry L. Williams, Booker T. Williams, Aaron Williams, Jr.,  Eddie F. Williams, Abbie Jennings, Sadie Turner, Anna Stevens, Annie Mae Hickman, Mary B. Allen, Carrie Culbreath, and Susie M. Buggs.

He is survived by; daughter, Gussie Stevens and two grandchildren, Stephanie E. Parker and Charles D. Parker, Jr. all of the home; brothers, Vannie (Clara) Williams, Saluda, SC, Clarence (Sarah) Williams, Capitol Heights, MD, Oscar (Narlene) Stevens, Saluda, SC and Jonthan (Veronica) Stevens, Blythewood, SC; sisters, Ida Williams, Washington, DC, Dusker (Robert) Kina, Milledgeville, GA and Lanie (Curtis) Lorick, Saluda, SC; God-Children, Jewel (Adrian) Penland, Atlanta, GA, Reginald (Savi) Stevens, Chicago, IL and Sherry Jones of Aiken, SC; sisters-in-law, Bertha Stevens, Eliza Stevens, Shirley (Carl) Pugh, Tanaya Minick, and Willie P. Minick; brothers-in-law, Richard Buggs and Tom Minick; Close/special cousin, Johnny (Arzina) Graham; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends who will miss him dearly.

Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church conducted by Reverend Anthony Gordon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.  Viewing will be 1-8 pm. on Friday at the funeral home.
