On April 20, 2024, Ruth Williams Smith went home into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior. She was born on January 5, 1954, in Ward, South Carolina, to the late Tommie Williams, Sr. and Eva Mae Culbreath Williams.
At an early age, she joined Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Saluda, South Carolina, where she attended for many years and served on the Junior Usher Board. Later, she moved her membership to St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Lexington, South Carolina.
Ruth graduated from Ridge Spring-Monetta High School, Monetta, South Carolina, in 1972. She obtained an Associate Degree in Social Work from Palmer College, Columbia,, South Carolina, in 1974. After graduation, she worked as a Social Worker for the state of South Carolina for 15 years. She also worked as a regional supervisor for the U.S. Census Bureau in 2000. She retired from Michelin North America, Inc., in 2017, after seventeen years of services.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband John Lewis Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Erica D. Jones, Columbia, SC; six siblings - two sisters: Doris (Bobby) Williams-McNeely, Snellville, GA, Lesa (Kevin) Jones, Fort Washington, Maryland, and four brothers: Tommie (Evangeline) Junior Williams, of Ward, SC, Willie James (Annie Ruth) Williams, Trenton, SC, Ernest (Renee) Williams, Columbia, SC, and Donald Williams, Johnston, SC; and one grandchild: Nyla M. Jones; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Her hobbies included fishing and traveling. She traveled to the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Hawaii, the Caribbean Islands, Canada, and a number of other exciting places. She was known for her kindness and generosity with her family and in the community. She will be greatly missed.
