Mr. Abe Moton, Jr.

McCormick, SC:  Mr. Abe Moton, Jr. was born on April 27, 1943 to the late Abe Moton, Sr. and Myrtis Lee Settles Moton in Edgefield, SC (Edgefield County). He was the grandson of the late Henry and Ella Moton of Edgefield SC, and Willie and Sally Settles of Washington, DC. He departed this life on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at his residence.

Abe received his education from McCormick County School System. After school, Abe moved to Washington, DC for two years. He return to McCormick, SC where he married the late Louise Martin, of Plum Branch, SC on February 22, 1966. They were blessed with one beautiful daughter, Philisha Le’chele Moton.

At an early age, Abe gave his life to the Lord, Jesus Christ and joined the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, McCormick, SC, where he remained a member until he went home to be with the Lord.

Abe was affectionately known to his family and friends as “Red” or “June”. He was employed by Milliken Incorporation in McCormick, SC for 20 years and Delta Woodside Industries, Inc. in Edgefield, SC for 20 year. He received an award for perfect attendance ten years in a row from Delta Woodside Industries before retirement. He loved outdoor sporting activities, gardening, hunting, fishing and traveling. He loved family gatherings, family reunions, cookouts and spending time with family and friends. He had a huge heart, and he was very generous to others.

Abe leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Philisha Le’chele Moton Timpson of McCormick, SC; three grandchildren: Cinquinia (Chico) Hathaway of Spartanburg, SC; Abeveon Moton and Tievar Timpson both of McCormick, SC; three great-grandchildren: Chailah Hathaway of Spartanburg, SC, Kay‘Dence Moton and Skylar Moton of Greenwood, SC; Five sisters: Bernice Cunningham (Charlie) of Capital Height, MD, Julia M. Witherspoon (Rev. Dr. Lavern), Merry M. Myers (Robert) and Audrey M. Moton of Columbia, SC; Jessie M. Bowie (Donald) of McCormick, SC; eight brothers: Willie Moton (Mary), Clayton Moton, Eddie F. Moton Sr., Charlie Moton (Margaret), Lawrence C. Moton (Brenda) of McCormick, SC; Franklin R. Moton (Theresa), Henry L. Moton (Debra) and Lonnie Moton (Carolyn) of Greenwood, SC, and a special friend, Lillie Butler of Edgefield, SC. stepsisters, Shirley Bussey (Patrick) of Plum Branch, SC, Delores Manus (Jiles) and Zellena Terry of Edgefield, SC; stepbrothers, Charlie Cunningham (Jennie) and Walter Cunningham (Joann) of Plum Branch, SC; He also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other extended family, who will miss him dearly. 

Celebration of his life 12 Noon, Tuesday, 2/13/18 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with the pastor, Reverend Melvin Gordon, Eulogist, Reverend Dr. Lavern Witherspoon, presiding with Reverend Michelle Mars and Reverend Felton Price, Jr assisting. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The body will be placed in the church at 11:00 A.M. 

Viewing will be Monday  1-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
