Deacon Curtis William Gantt
Saluda, SC: Deacon Curtis William Gantt,98, of 120 Twisted Hill Court, Passed away on January 28, 2018, surrounded by his family at the home of his granddaughter, Bessie Daniels.
He was born in Saluda County, SC, son of the late Eddie and Mary Jones Gantt and his biological father the late Jake Kinard.
He received his education in the public schools of Saluda, South Carolina.
At an early age, he joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church where he was a faithful member serving as a deacon and president and leader of the Senior Choir. He was former chairman of the Deacon Board where he served for 40 plus years, former President of Friendship Usher Board Union for years, and former Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a member of Pearl Chapel Lodge #118, Sons of Aide and Mine Creek Burial Society.
He began his working life with Amick's Farm and later agained employment with Piggly Wiggly as a Stocker until his retirement. He was also a Funeral Attendant with Butler and Sons Funeral Home. Deacon Gantt was one who loved the Lord and sought to please Him and he loved his family and friends. One of his hobbies was fishing. He was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He was first married to Bessie Dozier Gantt who preceded him in death and to this union five children was born. After her death he married to Lou Ella Bush Hill who also preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by sons, Freddie Lee Gantt and Reverend Johnny C. Gantt; daughter, Bertenia G. Robinson; siblings, Earnest Gantt, Fred Etheredge and Viola Thomas. He was the last survivor of his immediate family.
Leaving to honor and cherish his precious memory; two daughters, Minnie (Malon) Herbert and Betty G. Daniels both of Saluda, SC; daughter-in-law, Freda A. Gantt of Saluda, SC; step-daughter, Mary Fair of Saluda, SC; nineteen grandchildren, fifty-six great grandchildren, eighteen great-great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Doroty A. Davis and Tennie Ruth Lott both of Saluda, SC and Clarissa McClure of Charlotte, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family and sorrowing friends.
Celebration of Life will be 1 p.m. Thursday, 2/1/18 at Bethlehem Baptist Church conducted by Reverend Calvin Robinson, Eulogist and others assisting. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 12 Noon.
Viewing will be Wednesday, 1-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
