Mr. Maxie Smith

Saluda, SC: Mr. Maxie Smith, 68, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017, in Hospice of Laurens County Hospice House.

He was born in Saluda County, SC, son of the late John Oscar and Corine Brown Smith. He was once employed by Kraft's Food, Newberry County School District in the Janitorial Services and Lawn Care Service. He was a member of Lockhart Baptist Church and a 1969 graduate of Riverside High School. He was also an Army Veteran  of the Vietnam War.

He is survived by; his wife, Clementine Smith, Saluda, SC; two sons, Maxie Smith, Jr. of Saluda, SC and Maurice (Keonda) Caughman of Newberry, SC; daughters, Barbara Smith of Greenwood, SC and Vandee Williams of Lexington, SC; eight grandchildren; brother, Johnny M. (Annie) Smith of Saluda, SC; one aunt, Eliza Mae Werts of Saluda, SC; four sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.

Homegoing celebration will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017 at the Lockhart Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

The family is at the home of his son, Maurice (Keonda) Caughman 2010 Vincent Street, Newberry SC.

Butler and Sons Funeral Home is in charge.
