While living in New York, Sarah developed many interests.  During the early years of her marriage, Sarah worked in the home attending her small children.  Her first job was in a Doll Factory and later she worked with the Head-Start Program in New York.  She went back to school studying Early Childhood Education and continued on until the program terminated.  Eventually, Sarah worked in her later years as an Adult Care Provided with Seniors.   Sarah lived and worked in New York from August 1951 until November 1995, she moved back to South Carolina, Columbia.
