"I'M SAFE IN HIS ARMS"
Troy, SC: Annie Marie Sales Lanier, 82 of Greenwood, South Carolina passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 25, 2026. Born in Greenwood County, June 1, 1943, daughter of the late Charlie and Annie Lou Roundtree Sales. At an early age, she joined Flint Hill Baptist Church where she remained a member until her demise. She received her education in Greenwood as well, also residing in Washington DC for five years. Ann lived a rich, full, and deeply loving life- one defined by family, faith, and the countless people she touched with her kindness.
Ann was the devoted wife of the late Olander Lanier, and together they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love. She was an extraordinary mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and friend- the kind of woman who made everyone feel welcomed, supported and seen.
She leaves behind her loving children Bruce Sales and his wife Lisa of Greenwood, Antoinette Lanier Dansby and her husband Robert of McCormick, Trevis Lanier and his wife Lizeth of Columbia, and her sons Reginald (Tony) Lanier of Greenwood, and Karl Lanier of Texas. Ann was a proud and nurturing matriarch to a large and loving family, serving as a mother and grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Her home was always open, her arms always ready, and her heart always full.
Ann is also survived by her sisters, Cornelia Sales Martin (the late George Martin) of Greenwood, Odell Sales Parks and her husband William of Troy, Lillian Sales Dansby and her husband Clisby of McCormick, Betty Sales Sprowl and her husband Robert (Hank) of Greenwood, Katherine Sales Miller and her husband George (Randy) of Troy, and Delores Sales Settles and her husband Lewis of Greenwood. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives, who remained close throughout her life.
She is further survived by her sisters-in-laws Miriam Lanier Mack and her husband Raymond, Warner Robins, GA, Doris Lanier Nelson, Luephilia Lanier Gilchrist, Willie Mae Lanier, Annie Marie Roundtree and Lillie Mae Belcher all of Greenwood, and her brother-in-law Wade “Alphonso” Lanier and his wife Catherine, Troy. Her close friend Geraldine Blair of McCormick. Each of them held a special place in her heart and remained an important part of her extended family circle.
She was preceded in death by her brothers: Charlie Sales Jr., Thomas Sales, Ernest “Dank” Sales, Rufus “Nick” Sales, Willie “Bill” Sales, and Johnnie R. Sales and her special friend, James Albert Clark. Their memories remained close to her heart, and the bond they shared shaped her strength, compassion, and devotion to family.
Those who knew Ann will remember her vibrant spirit, her generosity, and the way she made every person feel like family. She had a gift for bringing people together, for offering comfort without being asked, and for loving without limits. Her legacy is carried forward in the many lives she shaped and the generations who will continue to feel her influence.
