Beatrice L. Shell
Beatrice Shell, known to all as Bea and/or Nana was born in Saluda County, South Carolina on February 16, 1922, to the late Robert (Rabb) Lewis and Mamie Bugg. She transitioned from her earthly home and gained her wings on Thursday, October 13, 2022.
Bea attended Rosenwald High School prior to leaving Saluda at the young age of fifteen. Upon relocating to Brooklyn, NY her and her childhood sweetheart Jesse Shell united on June 5, 1944. She was employed at Lessie Freeman Daycare Center where she worked for 10 years before retiring. After retiring she cared for her grandchildren.
Bea was the matriarch of the family and will truly be missed. She was known for her outgoing and outspoken personality. She was a very classy lady who was always dressed to impress. What was most gratifying to her was holidays, birthday gatherings and celebratory occasions with her family where she was the life of the party and guaranteed to hit the dance floor with or without her cane. She enjoyed cooking for family and outside organizations, going to bingo, playing cards, shopping, and going out to eat.
Bea was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who never had a closed fist. She loved the Lord and was a member of Christian Culture Center located in Brooklyn, NY. Bea could be heard singing “Oh, Lord, I want you to help me” on any given day. Throughout life she remained faithful and knew exactly where her help and strength came from.
In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Shell, her daughter Barbara Shell, and her grandson Shawn Shell.
She leaves to treasure and carry on her legacy, her three wonderful children; Samuel (Deborah) Shell of Augusta, GA, Mayme Shell of Elgin, SC, and Jessica Fitzgerald of Brooklyn, NY; nine grandchildren, Yolanda (Bernard) Milligan, Shannon Shell, Felicia (Charles) Dixon, Larry (Adrienne) Troupe, Tanya Shell, Jermaine Shell, Kenya Shell, Tashina (Shanuther) Redden and Ashely Shell; one sister-in-law, Lecie Shell-Worthy; 23 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Graveside Service to Celebrate her Life will be 1 p.m. Sunday 10/23/22 at Lockhart Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Elder Henry Watson and others.
