Bobby Coates

Columbia, SC;   Bobby Coates, 71, of 125 Fishers Wood Drive, the husband of Marva Coates, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 in Prisma Health Richland Hospital.

He was born in Edgefield, SC, July 8, 1949, son of Hattie Jones Coates and the late Claude Coates, Sr.  Bobby received his education in the public schools of Edgefied County, SC, and graduated from W E Parker High School in 1967. At an early age, he joined the Willow Spring Baptist Church. After graduating from high school, he joined the Marine Corps, where he served a tour in Vietnam.  He was presently employed as a Truck Driver for Imperial Pools.

Bobby was an avid sports fan. He loved race car driving which he would watch for hours. His favorite basketball teams were the Lakers and the Golden State Warriors. He enjoyed watching golf. Bobby was a faithful ran of the Washington Redskins even when they were losing. But most of all, he loved all the Redskins gifts he received from family and friends.

Bobby loved his family and friends. If you need you needed anything, he would be the first one to lend a helping hand, give advice, or just listen. His word was his bond. He was a man of integrity. Bobby is now our own personal Angel. He will walk with us and be in our hearts and memories every day.

In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Coates.

Those who will miss him the most; his devoted wife, Marva H. Coates of the home; mother, Hattie Coates of Edgefield, SC; sons, Bobby F (Natleata) Coates of Augusta, GA; Dedric L. Coates, of Columbia, SC; daughters, Alfreda Coates and Tia N. Coates both of Columbia, SC; five grandchildren, Jarruan DeKaiyla, JaVienn Da'Shaunn, Treyon Lamar, Jayden Amari, Ishadora Arie, Miya and Kylah; one great grand, Jarriyah Daionna; brothers, Edward, Claude, Jr, and Richard Coates (Miranda) all of Edgefield, SC, James (Ida) Coates, Ernest and George Coates all of Saluda, SC, Freddie Coates of Columbia, SC and Thomas Coates of Johnston, SC; sisters, Shirley Coates (Willie) of Aiken, SC and Rosetta Williams of Edgefield, SC; mother-in-law, Sue Halliburton, Columbia, SC; an aunt, Queenie Copeland of Ridge Spring, SC; two brothers-in-law, Garon (Nanette) Halliburton, Manchester, NH and Karl Halliburton, Columbia, SC; and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.

The family will be at the home of Hattie Coates (mother) 736 Highway 378 East, Edgefield, SC.
