Calvin Lanier Obituary

Troy, SC: Mr. Calvin Lanier, 68, of 922 Mt. Vernon Road, husband of Catherine Henley Lanier passed away on Monday morning, December 30, 2019 at his home.

He was born in Greenwood County, SC, on August 13, 1951, son of the late Herbert and Everlene Settles Lanier. He received his education in the public schools of Greenwood County, SC, and furthered his education at Piedmont Technical College in Building and Construction. He was a veteran of the US Navy.

At an early age, he joined Liberty Spring Baptist Church where he was a faithful member until his passing. He worked for Monsanto (Ascend) where he retired after 39 years of service. During his employment at Monsanto he served in the Fire Brigade for 25 plus years.  He was one of the founders of the Tri-County Volunteer Fire Department where he was one of the volunteers. Calvin was by nature a farmer and a gardener.  For a number of years, he sponsored the Family 4th of July Cookout along with the fireworks display. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert Lanier, Jr. and Hubert Fisher and two sisters, Geraldine F. McDuffie and Jacqueline L. Murcier Syrkett.

Leaving to cherish and honor his legacy; his wife, Catherine H. Lanier  of the home; daughters, Katrina L. Beverly of Greensboro, NC and Brittany L. Lanier of the home; three grandchildren, Zachary, Lucinda A. and Joseph Beverly; four brothers, Willie Thomas Lanier, Troy, SC, Jeffery (Janeen) Lanier of College Park, GA, Dennis Lanier of Lithonia, GA, Eric (Glenene) Lanier of Stone Mountain, GA; sisters, Sylvia (Robert) Bell of McCormick, SC, Diana Lanier (Anthony) Smith of Parrish, FL, Valerie Gale (Anthony) Armstrong of Stockbridge, GA and Cassandra (Wallace) Whitfield of Southfield, MI; his mother-in-law, Rebecca S. Henley, Saluda, SC; four brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law; his beloved dog, Sam of the home; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.

The family is at the home, 922 Mt. Vernon Road, Troy, SC.
