Charles William McCarty, Sr.

Charles William McCarty, Sr. of 4405 Ryan Avenue, the husband of Leora Dobbs McCarty, departed this life on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. 

He was born in Saluda, SC, January 16, 1947, son of the late Willie James McCarty, Sr. and Ora Bell Hewitt McCarty. At  an early age, he joined Mt. Moses CME Church.  He received his education in the public schools graduating from Riverside High School in 1967. After graduating from high school he joined the US Air Force during the Vietnam Era to serve his country. When Charles returned home from the Air Force and attended Midland Tech where he became a Master Tech in Heating and Air Condition and he was the owner and operator of Second Opinion Heating and Air.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by daughter, Michelle Etheredge and brothers, Willie James McCarty, Jr and Henry "Curt" Lott.

He  leaves to honor and cherish his memory; his devoted wife, Leora Dobbs McCarty of the home; son, Charles A. (Bobbie) McCarty, Jr. of Columbia, SC; daughters, Msiba (Kareem) Robinson of Melbourne, FLA and Sisi (Larry) Irvin of Columbia, SC; sixteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; one brother, Henry McCarty of Saluda, SC; three bonus children, Akilah Shani, Michael Glover and Maisha Kitwana all of Columbia, SC; one brother-in-law and seven sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends. 

The family will receive visitors on 12/30/2024 and 1/2/2025 from 12 pm to 4 pm at 109 Cardamon Court, Columbia, SC 29203.

Celebration of Life will be Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Clement Road Church of God Columbia, SC with burial following the services in Mt. Moses CME Church Cemetery, Saluda, SC. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. for viewing until the hour of service.
