Johnston, SC: Deacon Alvin Butler of 106 Peeble Court, the husband of Minister Daisy M. Mathis Butler departed this life suddenly on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at his home.
He was born in Saluda County, SC, February 18, 1944, the son of the late Johnny Butler and the late Abbie S. Stevens Butler Jennings. At an early age, he joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where he was a faithful member serving as a Deacon. He was a former Chairman of the Deacon Board and former member of the Usher Board. He received his education in the public schools of Saluda County, SC attending Riverside High School.
During his working life, he first worked at Saluda Mills and later at Graniteville Mill and his last employment until his passing was Persimmon Hill Golf Club.
Deacon Butler was humble, goodhearted, peaceful, kind and loving. He sought to please the Lord in the things that he said and did. He loved being outside and taking care of his animals. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who loved and knew him. The gentle smile that he wore will always be remembered.

He leaves to cherish and honor his memory; his devoted wife Minister Daisy Mae Mathis Butler of the home; two sons, Quincy (Emily) Butler of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Dexter (Denise) Butler of Johnston, SC; five grandchildren, Destany Butler Taylor, Angelique Butler, Darrion Butler, Nicolas Butler and Louisa Butler; sister, Annie Laura (Louis) Jackson of Johnston, SC; brothers, David (Cheryl) Butler of Edgefield, SC, Reverend Dr. Walter (Clara) Butler of Orangeburg, SC and Jessie (Kathleen) Jennings of Louisiana; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mason (Hattie) Cummings, Lewis (Bessie) Mathis, Jr., Bennie (Andrea) Mathis Walter Lee Mathis, David (Annette) Mathis, Rosa Mathis and Phillippine Butler; aunts and uncles, Lola Bell Butler, Vannie Williams, Clarence (Sarah) Williams, Oscar (Narlene) Stevens, Jonathan (Veronica) Stevens and Robert King; nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
