Deacon Mack Lee Ryans

Deacon Mack Lee Ryans, age 81, of Edgefield, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 29, 2026 at his residence.

Born on January 20, 1945, in Edgefield, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Benjamin Ryans and Willie Eva Lanier Ryans. He was educated in the Edgefield County Public School System and was a proud graduate of W.E. Parker High School, Class of 1965.

Deacon Ryans dedicated many years of faithful service to his community, retiring as Chief of Police for Edgefield County, South Carolina. He was known for his integrity, leadership, and unwavering commitment to protecting and serving others.

A devoted man of faith, Deacon Ryans was a lifelong member of Springfield Baptist Church, where he faithfully served in numerous capacities. He was Chairman of the Deacon Board, assistant Church Treasurer, a former Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer of Union #3, a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and member of the Brotherhood. His dedication to God and his church family was evident through his many years of faithful service.

Beyond his church and career, Deacon Ryans was a proud member of Truth Seekers Lodge #391 and was also a member of the Sons of Thunder Saddle Club during its years of existence. He leaves behind a legacy of service, wisdom, compassion, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Ryans, Benjamin Ryans, and Arnie Lee Ryans; and his sisters, Blondell Readdy, Mildred Perry and Janelle Ryans.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted wife, Dorothy Scurry Ryans of the home; three nephews whom he loved as sons, Christopher Carlos (Lisa) Ryans of Washington, D.C., John Ryans, Jr of Edgefield, South Carolina, and Kevin (Ebony) Scurry of Atlanta, Georgia; and one niece whom he loved as a daughter, Tonya Ryans Washington (Darryl) of Bowie, MD.

He is also survived by his sisters, Alberta Copeland of Washington, D.C., Trulla Kemp of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Barbara Ryans of Missouri; one grandson, Dexter Bowman of Edgefield, South Carolina; his goddaughters, Jasmine Turner of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Kym Simpkins of Graniteville, South Carolina; one brother-in-law, Sammie Scurry (Dorothy) of Newberry, SC; one sister-in-law, Mary S. Ryans of Edgefield, South Carolina; a devoted niece, Dorothy Perry of Rochester, New York; devoted nephews, Michael Walker of Aiken, South Carolina, Reginald Ryans of Greer, SC and Rico Butler of Edgefield, SC; special nieces, Pamela Andrews Hutto, Johnston, SC, Alfreda A. Turner of North Augusta, SC, and Carla M. Andrews, Maryland; his close friend, Curtis Gibson of Edgefield, South Carolina; his devoted friend, Reverend Damiean Bryant of Johnston, South Carolina; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many sorrowing friends.

Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, the love, guidance, faith, and example that Deacon Mack Lee Ryans shared throughout his life will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and love him.
