Dorothy Bates Wallace
Saluda, SC: Dorothy Bates Wallace, 84, departed this life on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Saluda Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born in Saluda, SC, December 14, 1937, daughter of the late Edith Bates Bridges and the Claude Smith and she was reared in the home of the late Jack and Roberta Glenn Bates. At an early age, she joined Lockhart Baptist Church and after her marriage to the late Zonnie Wallace, Sr. she moved her membership to Young Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served faithful until declining health. She was a member of the Gospel Choir serving as president and a member of the Usher Board. She was employed by Greenwood Mills for thirty years and after her retirement she found employment at J. F. Hawkins Nursing Center in Environmental Services.
Dorothy was one that loved the Lord and she sought to please Him. She loved to sing and praise God, her favorite songs, I'm Coming Lord, Whose In Charge and May the work I've done speak for me. She loved to cook and bake sweet potatoes pies. She was a L A Lakers' Fan. Dorothy was kind and loving in all her ways and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Preceding her in death addition to her parents and husband; her children, Brenda Wallace Chappell and Zonnie Wallace, Jr.
Those left to cherish and honor precious memories; son, Maurice (Eilleen) Wallace of South Jersey; daughter, Marilynn Wallace of Saluda, SC: ten grandchildren, Keila, Latisha, Sameerah, Rhys, Jake, Ashley, Cendric, Crystal, Courtney, and Taz; eleven great grandchildren; step-children, Twinetta Adams and Cassandra Jones both of Greenwood, SC, Valerie Carter of Greenvillie, SC and Michelle (Stevenson) Philippeaux of Norristown, PA; sisters-in-law, Eva Mae (Jack) Coleman and Bobbie Jean Robinson both of Saluda, SC; an aunt, Ora Wallace; two uncles, Johnny P. Bates and Harold Bates; nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
Celebration of Life will be 12 Noon Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Young Mt. Zion Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Carl Chiles, presiding and Reverend Anderson Robinson - Eulogist and others assisting. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. for viewing until the hour of service.
Family Viewing will be 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2022 and Public Viewing will be 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family is at the home 488 Medical Park Road, Saluda, SC.
