Obituary

Ella Mae Dinkins Christon
Saluda, SC:  Ella Mae Dennis Dinkins Christon, daughter of the late Eugene Dennis and Anna Dennis was born on September 18, 1927 in Sumter County, South Carolina, where she grew up an attended the public schools. She peacefully departed this earthly life on Thursday May 28, 2020 at the Saluda Nursing  Home & Rehabilitation Center, Saluda SC.
Ella Mae acknowledged Christ at an early age and was baptized at Rafting Creek Baptist Church.  She was a member of New Salem CME Church, and attended Willow Springs Baptist Church.
Ella Mae was married to the late Belton Dinkins and from this union were born five children Claudette, Anna, Mazolia, Paul and Silas.   Later she met and married the late Willie Eugene Christon and moved to Saluda SC.
During the “Great Migration” Ella Mae left Sumter, SC and moved to Washington, DC and was a domestic worker for some prominent families of the country all while sending money home to provide a better life for her children.
Ella Mae was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.  She was a GIVER and would share all that she had with anyone.  She believed in hard work, self-determination, loyalty, and mining her own business.  She loved to work in her gardens just to see the fruit of all that had been planted so she could share with her family and the community.  She was also an excellent cook better known as the “Top Chef”. Ella Mae was a very comical woman without even trying.  She never met a stranger and love to talk to anyone about anything.  She would always try to encourage you along your life’s journey.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by siblings, David, Eugene, Leon, Coleman, Marcus, John, Emma, Louise, and children Claudette, Anna, Paul and Silas, grandson Eric Sr., and , honorary son Horace Thompson.
She leaves to cherish her memories: a daughter, Mazolia Barnes of Saluda SC, a sister Carrie Dennis of New York, four grandchildren Terri A. Wilson-Williams (Tracy), Monique Wilson, Tracy Anderson, and Sherell Stevens-Masten (Henry) and a granddaughter in law Lynda Wellington.  Eleven Great Grand Children Antonio (Aiyetoro), Tra’rell, Sekeithia, Terrell, Eric Jr., Ngozi, Kentrell, Kadisha, Joseph, Lynise, and Kason.  Eleven Great-great grandchildren Tra’rell, Jeremiah, Justyce, Lyric, Liberty, Jayla, Aleeyah, Isaac, Zahmir, Zion, Legacy. Honorary daughter in law Geneva Thompson (Sumter SC) and two honorary grandsons James and Charles, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and sorrowing friends.
