Saluda, SC: Franklin Delano Gordon, Sr., 87 years old, formerly of Edgefield, SC, the widower of Martha Kate Freeman Gordon, departed his life on Thursday evening, January 13, 2022 at Saluda Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Saluda, SC.
Franklin “Tank” Delano Gordon, Sr. was born in Edgefield, SC, the son of the late Willie Douglas Gordon and Lillie Phillips Gordon. At an early age, he joined Pleasant Lane Baptist Church and served faithfully. He met Martha Kate Freeman in 1952, and they were married May 16, 1954. Franklin was ordained as a Deacon in 1961.
Franklin was not an educated man, but he was able to establish Gordon Logging in the late 1950’s with three men and one log truck. Martha served as the bookkeeper until they had children. Once their children became of age, Martha and Franklin showed them how to take over the business and help themselves.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, four brothers, Willie D. “Shield” Gordon, Jr., D.P. “Boot” Gordon, Harold “Hal” Gordon, and Phillip “Sam” Gordon; and three sisters Ernestine ”Ernie” Mosley, Catherine ”Cat” Shivers, and Marie “Mae” Adams.
He is survived by his devoted children, daughter, Syneta (James) Powell of North Augusta, SC; three sons, Franklin D. (Deloris) Gordon, Jr, Bruce A(Brenda) Gordon; and Leon (Louvenia) Gordon all of Edgefield, SC; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. Two sisters Ethel ”Dolly” Long of Jersey City, New Jersey, and Katerina Brown of District Heights, MD; a brother Ronnie Gordon, Edgefield, SC; sisters-in-law, Lou Emma Gordon of Edgefield, SC and Claudia Freeman of Columbia, SC, brothers-in-law, Truman Freeman, Moses Felder and Virgil Manley of Columbia, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
