Freddie Jones Obituary

Mr. Freddie Donnell Jones was born to the late Johnny Bell Jones and the late Ethel Mae Jones Anderson on September 22, 1958 in Saluda, SC.  He was the only child born to his parents.  He was reared by his mother and late stepfather, James Anderson.  He entered into eternal rest on June 24, 2025 where God called him to his heavenly home.

Freddie received his early education in the school system of Saluda and Edgefield counties in SC.  He graduated from Strom Thurmond High School in 1977. He attended Benedict College and received an Associate’s Degree in Industrial Engineering.  Freddie met his wife Ca’rley at Benedict College in 1979.  He watched Ca’rley as she toured the campus before she was admitted.  They dated for three years and were joined in Holy Matrimony in 1983 in Columbia, SC. To this union, two children were born.  He and his family relocated to Lexington, SC in 1990 in the Edmund Community.

Freddie loved his family and worked diligently to care for them with the help of his spouse.  His self-reliance and responsibility were cultivated at the early age of eight, where he began working for himself selling nightcrawler worms. He later went into business with his grandmother, the late Laura Mobley Jones.  She kept the earnings and paid him, teaching him the importance of entrepreneurship.

Freddie was a percussionist.  He played the quad drums in high school and college. He also played the drums as a member of the Natural Desire Band. He attended Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Edmund, SC and was the first to bring the drums and drum set into the church.  He was a passionate percussionist, and like his father Johnny Bell, he played very well. He was a part of the church musical choir and his favorite song was “Fix it Jesus.” He also attended Refuge Temple in Columbia, SC for a few years.  He later joined Mt. Hebron Baptist in 2009, a church away from his home church in Saluda, serving God faithfully and keeping the righteous act.

Freddie continued being studious and graduated from Voorhees College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Management in 2001. He and his wife Ca’rley continued to nurture their children and even renewed their wedding vows three times!  He jokingly asked his wife, “How many times do I have to marry you woman?!”

Freddie was also employed with numerous jobs over the years.  Just to name some-WOLO News 25 (cameraman), Westinghouse, US Silica Sand Company, and Primerica Insurance.  He worked for Mack Trucks for 32 years from 1987 until he retired, and during that time, moved to Hagerstown, MD in 2004 when Mack Trucks relocated from Winnsboro, SC.  He retired from Mack Trucks in 2020.

Some of Freddie’s treasured hobbies included capturing memories (he was a great cameraman), making wine (muscadine was his favorite), roller-skating, fishing, raising butterflies, and gardening with his mother, Ethel Mae. They had a love and green thumbs for growing plants! His love of butterflies inspired him to want to grow his own butterfly farm one day and sell them to people for special occasions.

Freddie leaves to cherish his beloved, devoted wife Ca’rley, daughter Erica Monique (Justin) Martin, son Jon Eric Jones, granddaughters Ava Amaris Martin and Layla Alexis Martin, grandson Noah Xavier Martin, preceded in death brother Johnny Jones and surviving brother Orlando Jones, sisters Jacqueline Evans and Marquita Jones, aunts Hattie Coates and Queen Copelin, uncles Henry Pete (Rose) Jones and John L. Jones, close cousins James Minick and Drucilla Bloome, and a host of beloved relatives and friends.

The family is at their respective homes.
