George Dukes, Sr.

Saluda, SC:  George Dukes, Sr, of 324 High Point Road, the husband of Sherelleyne Dozier Dukes was called home by God to his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, after declining health.

He was born in Saluda, SC, on July 31, 1939, son of the late James Mike Dukes and the late Viola Long Dukes Johnson. He was educated in the public schools of Saluda County, SC.  At an early age, he joined Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was married to the love of his life, Sherelleyne Dozier and they moved to New York to live. This union four children were born. While living in New York he was a custodian at Mark Twain Junior High School. After living in New York for twenty years the decision was made to move back Saluda in 1974. After moving to Saluda he gained employment at Champion, Trotter Builders and his last job was with Professional Medical Products until he retired. After moving back to Saluda, he and his family untied with Rock Hill Baptist Church. He was a member of Mine Creek Burial Aide Society and the Men Aide Society.

George loved to fish and he also was a diehard Dallas Cowboys Fan.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings, James H. Dukes, Mike Dukes, Clifton Dukes, Willie Dukes, Leon Dukes, Joe Dukes and Gladys Mae Rogers.

He leaves to honor and cherish his memory; his devoted wife, Sherelleyne D. Dukes of the home; sons, Brett (Alma Jean) Dukes and George Dukes, Jr. both of Batesburg, SC and Michael (Tamara) Dukes of Columbia, SC; daughters, Mechelle (Jeremiah) Felton of Saluda, SC and Debra Branch of Columbia, SC; sister Annie Mae Massey of Burlington, NC;eighteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Henry (Lorriane) Dozier of New York; two sisters-in-law, Carrie Dozier and Gladys Smith both of Saluda, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of His Life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Rock Hill Baptist Church conducted by the pastor, Reverend Herbert Martin with others assisting. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Family viewing will be Friday, March 10, 2023 at 1-2 p.m. and public viewing will be 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family is at the home.
