Gerald Alston Obituary

Lawrenceville, GA – Gerald Edwin Alston was born on January 12, 1950, in Nash County, NC, the son of the late Johnny Oliver Alston, Jr. and the late Geraldine Clanton Alston. He departed this life on Friday, July 4, 2025, at MeSun Healthcare in Lawrenceville, GA.

Gerald was educated in the public schools of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in 1968. He pursued further studies at North Carolina Central College before a football injury cut his college career short. He was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

Gerald held various positions before joining the United States Navy in June 1982. He retired from the Navy on June 30, 2002, after twenty years of faithful and dedicated service. During his service, Gerald received numerous awards and participated in the Gulf War Era, including Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He settled in Lawrenceville, Georgia, after serving his final duty station at the Navy Supply School in Athens, Georgia.

Following his military retirement, Gerald worked for the Federal Government as a Naval Security Officer until June 2012, when the Navy Supply School closed in Athens, Georgia. Gerald’s health began to decline in April 2017.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Gwendolyn Yvonne Alston and Gretchen Yvette Alston, and his brother, Kirkland Peels Alston.

He leaves to cherish and honor his memory: his devoted wife, Lois Elizabeth Alston of the home; his children, Sherlita Cantrice Battle (Brandon) of Zebulon, NC, and Kimberly Nicole Peters of Atlanta, GA; his step-children, Nicole Monet Brown of Lawrenceville, GA and Alexis Shocka Brown of Saluda, SC; his grandchildren, Tyler Battle, Esasis Brown, and Elijah Brown; his brother, Johnny Oliver Alston III of Winston-Salem, NC; brother-in-law, Reverend James D. Brown; sisters-in-law, Catherine Brown, Annie Brown, and Janie B. Brown; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

The family is receiving visitors at the home of Reverend James D. Brown, 7474 Duncan Road, Batesburg, SC.

As the family walks through their valley experience, please remember them in your prayers when you bow to pray.
