Henry Butler, Sr. Obituary

Johnston, SC:  Henry Thomas Butler, Sr. of 355 JDM Road, the widower of Doris Mobley Butler transition from this life into eternal rest on Thursday morning, June 6, 2024 at his home.

He was born in Saluda, SC, on December 9, 1947, son of the late James Bud Butler and the late Seebell Black Butler. At an early age, he joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and he was a member of the Men Aide Society. Henry received his education at Riverside High School, Saluda, SC.  

He was first married to the late Annie Ruth Bush Butler and this union was blessed with four sons. Later in life he married Doris Mobley Butler who also preceded him in death.

He was a hard-worker, his last employment was with Shaw Industries until he became disable. He was a cook, gardener, grass cutter, he loved fishing and hunting. Not only did he love to cook he loved to eat also.  Henry was a man that took care of his own business, didn't like asking anyone for anything. Henry nickname was "The God Father", he loved to shoot pool and he played softball for the team Clay-Hoppers. He was a diehard fan of Tom Brady. Henry was one that loved to have fun and tell it like it was. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents and both spouses, he was also preceded in death by siblings, James D. Butler, Albert Butler, Marchell Butler and Annie Ruth Stevens and step daughter, Michelle L. Howard.

He leaves to cherish and honor his memory; sons, Terry (Robin) Butler of Saluda, SC (his caretakers), Henry Thomas (Vernice) Butler, Kelvin (Patricia) Butler and Ronald (Constance) Butler all of Johnston, SC and Darren Smith of Columbia, SC; stepson, Al (Gale) Howard of Aiken, SC; step daughter, Sandra Howard of the home; eighteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; brother, Joe (Patricia) Butler of Johnston, SC; his twin, sister,  Leathy B. Key of Saluda, SC; seven brothers-in-law, eight sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
