James Burton

Saluda, SC: Deacon James "Sonny Boy" Burton of 1109Salem Branch Road. the husband of Gloria Stevens Burton, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at his residence.

He was born in Saluda, SC, June29, 1941, son of the late Bennie Lee Burton, Sr. and the late Ollie Smith Burton. He received his education in the public schools of Saluda County South Carolina. He was a faithful member Mt. Calvary Baptist where he served as Deacon, Senior Choir member, Van Driver and just a Servant. He was a Mason. He was a Mechanic working at S & P Grading Company and other places.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, Gloria Stevens Burton of the home; sons, James C. Burton, Norfork, VA, Alexander (April) Burton, Irmo, SC and Michael (Sherry) Burton, Saluda, SC; daughters, Janet Fant (Samuel), Irmo, SC, Melody Williams (John L), Saluda, SC and Janie Wright, North Augusta, SC; nine grandchildren and three great grandchilden; brothers, Curtis Burton (Alberta), Beach Island, SC and Bishop Henry Lee Burton (Ruby), Saluda, SC; sisters, Dorothy Dobbs, Saluda, SC and Flora Staine, Johnston, SC; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by; siblings, Benjamin Burton, Bennie Lee Burton, Jr., Mary Enna Glover, Louise McKinney, Alberta Carson and Lizzie Young.
