Mr. James Homer Gilliams
Greenwood, SC: Mr. James Homer Gilliams, 91, of 310 Ellenburg Avenue, the widower Alice Watson Gilliams, passed on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at his home.
He was born in Edgefield County, SC, September 10, 1928, to the late Hurley Gilliam Phillips and the late Joe Glover. He received his education in the public schools of Edgefield, SC. At an early age, he joined the Willow Spring Baptist Church. He was a stone cutter for many years for a local company in Washington, DC. He migrated to Washington DC area at an early age and he moved back to South Carolina in 1997 and made his in Greenwood, SC.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by siblings, Johnny Gilliam, Liza Mae Phillips and Carrie Lindsay.
Those who will honor and cherish his memory; son, Jerome (Tonya) Jones of Maryland; brothers, George (Pamela) Phillips of Washington, DC and O W Phillips of Ward, SC; sisters, Dorothy Phillips of Washington, DC, Maggie Phillips (Caretaker) of the home and Margaret Phillips of Edgefield, SC; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two great-great grand; two sisters-in-law, Daisy B. Gilliam and Peggy (Charlie) Ware; brother-in-law, and Milledge Watson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
A Graveside Service will be Friday at 12 Noon at Oakbrook Memorial Park, Greenwood, SC, conducted by Elder Hodges Bush.
A Viewing will be held Thursday 3-7 pm. at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.
