Jeremiah (Pookie) Stevens
Saluda, SC: Jeremiah (Pookie) Stevens, 52, of 114 May Branch Road, husband of of Shelia Coates Stevens transitioned for this life into eternal rest of Sunday, July 18, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Edgefield, SC, on October 17, 1968, son of Ruby Lee Gilliam Stevens and the late Clifford Stevens. He received his education in the public schools of Saluda County, South Carolina where he graduated from Saluda High School in 1987.
At an early age, he joined the Willow Spring Baptist Church and attended the Lockhart Baptist Church with his family.
Pookie as he was affectionately called was an avid sports fan. He loved football, basketball and soft ball, his favorite football team was the San Francisco 49ers. He also loved drag racing, motor cycle riding where he was a member of 121 Riders. Pookie was a fixer, he loved restoring old cars and trucks. He was a family man, he loved family gatherings, family trips, and he loved to grill. He was employed by Covidien for twenty-one years, leaving his job as a machinist after becoming disable.
He was married to Sheila Laverne Coates Stevens and this union was blessed with four children.
Pookie leaves to cherish and honor his memory; his wife, Sheila C. Stevens of the home; his mother, Ruby Lee Stevens of Saluda, SC; sons, Cardarius M. (Ariel) Stevens of Ladson, SC, Jeremiah J. Stevens and Jedrius M. Stevens both of the home; daughter, Lanithia Coates of Saluda, SC; two grands, Shaliyah Burt and Rylee Burt both of Saluda, SC; sisters, Angela M. Matthews Columbia, SC, Felicia (Darryl) Hill of Saluda, SC and Diane Jones of Saluda, SC; father-in-law, George T. Coates, Sr. of Saluda, SC; sisters-in-law, Kacy (Derrick) Scott, Martha Upson, Jamilla Dobbs, Porsche Anderson and Eboni Lyles; two brothers-in-law, Jordan B. Coates and George T. Coates, Jr.; nine aunts, five uncles; nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
The family is at the home.
