Deacon Joe Johnson
Saluda, SC: Deacon Joe Johnson, 75, of 406 Waters Avenue, the husband of Betty Butler Johnson entered into eternal rest suddenly, Monday night, December 13, 2021 at his home.
He was born in Greenwood, SC, son of the late Willie Howard Johnson, Sr. and the late Cliffis Griffin Johnson on March 14, 1946.
He received his education in the public schools of Greenwood County, South Carolina and he was a graduate of Edgewood High School, Ninety Six, SC. At an early age, he joined the Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he was a faithful member serving as a Deacon.
Joe was a hard worker and a good provider for his family. He worked as a supervisor for many years at Greenwood Mills. He was a entrepreneur, doing lawn care service, carpentry and other jobs. Joe was one who didn't mind working.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Calvin Y. Butler; his brother, Willie Howard Johnson, Jr, and sister, Willie Ruth Johnson Miller.
He is survived by: his devoted wife, Betty Lou Butler Johnson of the home; sons, Joe Aaron Johnson, Saluda, SC Zontavius Vidale Breundria) Johnson of Simpsonville, SC, Mark (Sarah) Johnson of Texas; two daughters, Joetta Johnson, Philadelphia, PA and Cynthia (Kendrick) Christie of Ninety Six, SC; seventeen grandchildren, three great grands; daughter-in-law, Tonya Butler of Saluda, SC; adopted daughters, Sharon D. Gilliam, Saluda, SC and Janette Hill Culbreath of Batesburg, SC; God children, Daphne Gilliam, Kenneth Gilliam and Clenton Gilliam all of Saluda, SC.
