Johnnie James Dobbs

Saluda, SC:  Johnnie James (Gene) Dobbs, 72, of 173 May Branch Road, the husband of Betty Jean Holloway Dobbs, departed this life on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at his home. 

He was born in Saluda, SC, on November 11, 1950, son of the late Roosevelt and Ruby Kinard Dobbs. He was a member of Willow Spring Baptist Church where he was a former Trustee. He was a 1970 graduate of Riverside High School and a retired employee of Hanson Brickyard. He was a veteran of US Army and served in the National Guard of Saluda. 

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Ta

wande Holloway; siblings, Jimmy Dobbs, Duffie Lee Kinard, Eva Lister, Lillie Mae Mathis, Ruby Edna Dobbs and Esther Ruth Dobbs.

He was affectionately called Gene by his family and friends and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He leaves to cherish and honor his memory, his devoted wife, Betty Jean Holloway Dobbs of the home; daughters, Sharisas Wideman, Ninety Six, SC and Taneka Nelson, Greenwood, SC;  six grandchildren, Renita (Lajavis) Mathis, Saluda, Nykeisha Partlow, Greenville, Brittany Holloway, Greenwood, Malcolm Wiggins of the home, Keyancler Wideman, Greenville and Keylan Wideman, Ninety Six, SC; ten great grandchildren; brother, Bobby Dobbs (Earline), Batesburg, SC; sisters, Leora (Charles) McCarty, Columbia, SC and Christine (Richard) Graham, Saluda, SC; one sister-in-law, three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.

A Celebration of Life will be 1 p.m. November 7, 2023 at Willow Spring Baptist Church conducted by the pastor, Reverend Anthony Gordon. The body will be placed in the church at 12 Noon.  Burial will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.  

Viewing will be held Monday, 11/6/23 2-6 pm at the funeral home.
