Lorene Rhynes Gilchrist

Edgefield, SC:  Lorene Rhynes Gilchrist of 874 Plum Branch Road, the Widow of Charlie Gilchrist, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at the home of her daughter Debra (Kenneth) Rowe.

She was born in McCormick, SC, October 14, 1938, daughter of the late Rufus Rhynes, Sr. and the late Genell Settles Rhynes. She received her education in the public schools of Edgefield County, South Carolina.  At an early age, she joined Springfield Baptist Church and after her marriage to Charlie Gilchrist, Sr. she became a member of Liberty Spring Baptist Church where she maintained hr membership until her passing.  She was a member of Liberty Spring Baptist Church Senior Choir. To the union of her marriage six children were born. During her working life she was a custodian at Edgefield Hospital. 

In addition to her parents and husband. she was also preceded in death by; two sons, Reverend Henry F. Gilchrist and Emmanuel Gilchrist, Sr. and brothers,  James Rhynes, Joseph Rhynes and Ernest Lee Rhynes and sister, Beatrice R. Scott.

She leaves to honor and cherish her memory; daughters, Mary Alice Polly(Johnnie) of Johnston, SC, Debra (Kenneth ) Rowe of Edgefield, SC and Loretha (Mike) Agyare of Grovetown, GA; sons Charlie A. Gilchrist, Jr. (Lorranie) of Jacksonville, FLA; twenty-one grandchildren; sisters, Cora Bell Gordon and Annie R. Paige both of Edgefield, SC, Genette Palmore and Sherry Ann Adams both of Saluda, SC; daughter-in-law, Linda Moss Gilchrist;  sisters-in-law, Annie Lou (Ronnie) Settles, Shirley Kirby,  Claudine Rhynes, Dorothy Gilchrist and Rosa Rhynes; brother-in-law, J W Cartledge; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
