Lula Bernice Etheredge Brown
Greenwood, SC: Lula Bernice Etheredge Brown, age 77, was called home on Saturday, April 1, 2017, in Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood, SC. Born on October 31st, 1939 in Saluda, South Carolina, daughter of the late Corine Mason Etheredge and Nathaniel “Son” Etheredge. She first accepted Christ as a small child at Lockhart Baptist Church. Bernice met Abbey Brown when she was a teenager and soon after, they were married. Bernice was a homemaker and absolutely adored her son Abbey, her daughter Ann and her grandchildren. She loved her spending time with her sisters.
Bernice attended Riverside Middle School in Saluda, South Carolina. At the age of 16, she ventured to New York City where she lived for over a decade. She then ventured on to Washington, DC where she lived another 46 years, before making her last stop home in South Carolina. Bernice lived in South Carolina for the last 5 years. She was happy to be reunited with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bernice was warm and kind and loved anything with the color red in it. She never had a bad word to say about anyone but always chuckled when you did. She was a humble woman who did not require much except the comfort of her family, a sweet tea and a Pepsi Cola from time to time.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband: Abbey Brown; her daughter, Annie Lee Brown; her parents: Nathaniel and Corine Etherege; one sister, Julia Mae Williams; two brothers: Jack Mason and David Etheredge. Bernice leaves to cherish her loving memories: one son: Abbey Brown, Jr of Washington, DC.; four sisters, Lubertha Moore and Catherine Felder of Washington, DC; Ethel Clayborne of Maryland; Annie Pearl Moon (Willie) of South Carolina;; four brothers: Nathaniel Etheredge Jr. (Etta) of North Carolina; John Etheredge (Mary) of Maryland; Phillip Etheredge (Gail) of South Carolina; Charlie Etheredge of Virginia; five grandchildren: Helen and Latoya Brown; three grandsons: Robert Brown, James Brown and Maureen Brown, all of Greenwood, SC; one uncle, George Mason of South Carolina and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family and sorrowing friends.
Homegoing Service and burial will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, 4/8/17 at the Lockhart Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Viewing will be Friday 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 am to 12 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
