A Time to Be Born
Maggie Lanier Settles, daughter of the late Wade and Anna Lanier Sr, was born on June 13 , 1927, in Edgefield, South Carolina.
A Time of Marriage
Maggie was married to the late Orlando Settles, on September 26, 1943. During this time of union eight children were born.
A Time of Faith
At an early age, Maggie accepted Christ and joined the Liberty Spring Baptist Church in Edgefield, South Carolina. There she was an active member and faithful servant serving on the head of the Pastor’s Aide Committee and the Church Program Committee. She was also a member of the Woman’s Home Aide Society #126.
A Time to Grow
Maggie received her education in the public schools of Edgefield County, South Carolina.
A Time to Love
Maggie was a lover of people. She never met a stranger. She loved helping others do whatever task was at hand. She showed her love in numerous ways by teaching others to read or write, cleaning, cooking, volunteering her services, visiting the sick, and many other endeavors. Her most important love was her family. She led and loved her family until her time of departure.
A Time to Depart
On Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Edgefield County Hospital, Edgefield, South Carolina, God called one of His special angels home to rest from her illness.
A Time to Mourn
Although our hearts are filled with sorrow we can rejoice in the many memories of Maggie Settles that will forever live in our hearts. She leaves to cherish four sons, MacArthur (Bernice) Settles of Columbia, SC, Jerome (Linda) Settles of Columbia, SC, Ronnie (Annie) Settles of Columbia, SC, and Navon (Betty) of Edgefield, SC; four daughters Barbara (Landrum)Patton of Columbia, SC, Blandenia (William) Fuller of Edgefield, SC, Syneta S. Gilchrist of McCormick, SC, and Debra S. White of the home. She, also, leaves to cherish her precious memories one brother, Herbert Lanier of Troy, SC. Four brothers preceded her in death (Wade, Carl, Eddie and James Lanier) and one sister (Willie Eva Ryans). She finally leaves behind, 23 grandchildren, one grandchild reared in the home Bianca White, 35 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, a hosts of nieces, nephews, family, and dear friends to cherish her loving spirit.
Homegoing Celebration Monday, October 7, 2013 @ 12 Noon at the Liberty Spring Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Henry Merriweather. Eulogist and Reverend James Reynolds, Presiding and other assisting. Burial in the church cemetery.
