Margaret Dozier Greene (81) departed this life on Wednesday morning, January 8, 2025, at NHC Healthcare in Lexington, South Carolina.
Margaret was born May 20, 1943, in Saluda, SC, the daughter of the late Margaret Lourise Dozier Brown, the late Fred Otis Etheredge, Sr., and her bonus daughter of the late Pierce Brown, Jr.
Margaret was educated in the public schools of Saluda County. She joined Bethlehem Baptist Church at an early age and remained a member until moving to New Jersey. She fellowshipped with Macedonia Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. Returning to her home state after retirement, she settled in Columbia, SC, and Fellowshipped with Bethlehem Baptist Church in Columbia, SC, but considered Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Saluda her home Church.
Margaret loved caring for people, so she became a CNA and worked at the Community Hospital in New Jersey. She was also a Certified Dental Assistant. However, her greatest life career and profession was loving and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Margaret met and married Henry Greene in New York, NY.
Her mother, father, bonus father, and twin sister Martha Dozier preceded her in death. Additionally, one grandson, Michael Dozier, and six siblings; Brothers: George R. Brown, Henry Pierce Brown, and Albert Etheredge. Sisters: Lizzie Henley, Glenda Coates, and Helen Brown Robinson.
Those who will cherish her memory include her husband, Henry Green; two sons, Steven (Anna) Dozier of Columbia, SC, and Christopher Samuel (Marisa) Rice of West Columbia, SC; three daughters, Debra Branch of West Columbia, SC, Evangelist Hilda (Rita) Dozier of Catskill, PA, Dorothea (John) Simmons of Valdosta, GA; and one goddaughter, Menzel Smith-Jones (Darrell). Thirty-two grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Four brothers, Rev. James D. Brown of Saluda, SC, Fred Etheredge of Clinton, SC, Oscar (Jean) Etheredge of Norristown, PA, and Larry (Annette) Etheredge of Columbia, SC. Eight sisters, Janie Alsup of Taylors, SC, Catherine Brown, and Annie Brown, both of Saluda, SC, Lois (Gerald) Alston of Lawrenceville, GA, Rosie Barnes, Dr. Peggie (Bishop Richard) Johnson, Anita Etheredge, all of Columbia, SC, and Gloria Fosrington of Saluda, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
For those that wish to visit the family may do so at the home of her daughter, Debra Branch, 1817 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia, SC 29169, Thursday, January 16, 2025 time 3-6 pm.
