Mary Linda Bowman Peterson
Edgefield, SC: Mary Linda Bowman Peterson, 91, the widow of Roscoe Peterson, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2021, at Saluda Nursing Center & Rehab.
Mary was born December 21, 1929, to the late Reverend Johnny B. Bowman and the late Essie L. Holmes Bowman in Chicago, ILL. She was the seventh child of sixteen, fourteen preceded her in death.
She received her education the Edgefield County Public School System . She confessed Christ at an early age, an joined the Springfield Baptist Church where she served as a faithful member. Mary also served at the Pleasant Lane Baptist Church as Senior Choir Member, member of the Springfield Singing Convention, Treasurer of the Pleasant Lane Burial Aid society and many other areas as needed. She retired from the Saluda Shirt Plant.
She met and married Roscoe Peterson on September 24, 1950, who preceded her in death. To this union nine children were born.
Mary will be dearly missed by many family, friends, and all who knew and loved her. Precious memories will linger on in our hearts and mind forever.
Left to cherish her loving memory; her children, Shirley P. Porter, Ernestine P. Parks, Alfonzo (Barbara) Peterson, Brenda P. Robinson, Willette Peterson, Doris P. Gordon, Francine (Rev. Keith) Gordon, Rev. Johnny (Shirley) Peterson, Angela P (Robert) Garrett; twenty-two grandchildren, forty-four great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Bowman, Washington, DC, Gussie Washington, Edgefield, SC; sister-in-law, Essie Mae Peterson, Washington, DC; two god-daughters, Essie Price and Della Anderson; a loyal friend, Clara Griffin; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family is at the home 28 Peterson Lane, Edgefield, SC.
