Mary Hellen Gaines Wise
Saluda, SC: Mary Hellen Gaines Wise, of 399 Logan Street, entered into eternal rest on Saturday night, October 15, 2022 in Wesley Commons, after declining health.
She was born in Saluda County, SC, July 15, 1931, daughter of the late Eunice and Lillie Mae Abney Gaines.
She received her education in the public schools of Saluda County, SC and also attended Rosenwald School.
At an early age, she joined Mt. Enon Baptist Church where she was a faithful member. She served as Church Clerk for many, many years and she was a member of the Senior Choir, a member of the Missionary and Children Ministry. She was also a member of WHAS #31.
She was a long time employee of Knights Industry where she worked until she retired. She loved to sew and fold clothes as if they just came out of the store. Mary Hellen studied the word of God and she knew it and she lived by the Word. She kept mostly to herself and mind her own business. Her favorite word in conversation was "Hello" always the answer. She touched many lives and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was married to the late James Walter Wise. To this union one son was born, Randy Wise who also preceded her in death; siblings that also preceded her in death, Joe Louis Abney, Ronald Abney, and Matthew "Pete" Green, Sr. and Carolyn Theadgill. and great grandson Jwann Green.
She leaves to honor and cherish her memory; Michele Wise; sister, Bonnie Wright of Alston, TX; children, Renee Terry(James of Lexington, SC and Willie Mae Minick (Barrett) of Saluda, SC; special aunt/sister-in-law, Irene Green of Lexington, SC; others grands, Jalen Minick, Eboni Minick, great grands, Cornelius Briggs, Sara Green, Jessica Norris, Desmond Green, Jacqueline Q. Lowman and Karson Glassglow; great-great grands, Elijah Speller and Cornika Briggs; other grandchildren, Ann/Alice/Matthews Green, Jr. whom she help raise us all. Actual she was there when we were born; longtime close family member and caretaker, Ida Gaines and her family; other close cousins and caretakers, Hattie Walker and Ella Blocker who was special to her; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of her Life will 1 p.m. Friday at Mt. Enon Baptist Church conducted by the pastor Reverend Ralph Donnie Byrd - Eulogist, Reverend Vanessa Ouzts - Presiding and others assisting. The body will be for viewing at church at noon until the hour of service.
Family Viewing will be 11 am - 12 pm Public Viewing 12 pm to 6 pm Thursday at the funeral home
The family is at the home of Renee and James Terry, 229 Conventry Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072.
