McArthur Settles
McArthur Settles was born on February 6, 1944, to the late Orlander Settles and Maggie Lanier Settles in Edgefield, S.C. He loved and cherished his parents and his family. McArthur accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior when he was baptized at Liberty Spring Baptist Church at an early age. He loved the Lord throughout his life and recommitted himself fully to the Lord when he retired to South Carolina, praying constantly for God to keep him focused on His word.
McArthur received his primary education in Edgefield County public schools. He left South Carolina in 1962 and moved to Boston, MA where he worked several jobs. He was industrious and worked very hard eventually starting his own businesses beginning with Settles Bar-B-Que and owned three full service gas stations. The businesses flourished until he decided to retire and return to South Carolina. In 1988, he started his fourth and final successful business, Settles Beauty Supply. He was passionately involved in it until his untimely passing.
He was an active member of Christian Faith Fellowship Church in Columbia, SC. He was a proud member of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge. McArthur spent much of his life providing unwavering support to his family and community through his leadership and dedication. He willingly shared his wisdom, time and money to young people in his family and community. In his leisure time, he loved having a good time with family and friends, traveling and enjoying all sports. He especially loved football and his New England Patriots. On Saturday, October 3rd, 2020, he was called home to his eternal reward doing what he loved, watching the Patriots. He peacefully transitioned to the other side. He will be fondly remembered for his undying love for his family and friends and for his many contributions to charitable causes within his beloved community.
McArthur was preceded in death by his parents, Orlander and Maggie Lanier Settles, and one son, Reginald Settles.
