Reatha Abney Jones
Saluda, SC: Reatha Abney Jones. the widow of the late Ben Louis Jones, entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 5, 2022 at Saluda Nursing Center and Rehab.
She was born in Saluda, SC, August 1, 1931, daughter of the late Tom and Elsie Werts Abney. She received her education in the public schools of Saluda County, SC, where she attended Rosenwald High School.
At an early age, she joined the Lockhart Baptist Church where she was a faithful member and a member of WHAS #126. She was also a member of Solomon Temple Holiness Church. She always worked, she first worked at Knight's Industry and later she worked as a Trainer at Milliken Plant of Saluda and retired after seventeen years of employment. After her marriage to Ben Lewis Jones who preceded her in death; they moved to Cleveland, Ohio and she became a member of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Missionary. While living in Cleveland she worked as a Health Care Worker for Benjamin Rose Institute until she retired in 2012. Reatha moved back to Saluda in 2020 and reinstated her membership with Lockhart Baptist Church. Reatha was an excellent cook as well a baker. After moving to Cleveland, she and her husband would make their way to Saluda every Thanksgiving Dinner to prepare dinner for her family member. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her favorite color was purple.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by siblings, Elzie Abney, Willie Abney, Wash Abney, Thomas Abney, Gary Abney, Jennie Mae Jones and Beulah Simpkins.
She leaves pleasant memories in the lives of her family; sons, Solomon Lewis (Rena) of Batesburg, SC and John Lewis Jones of Cleveland, OH; daughter, Dr. Patricia Blessman (Steve) of Chicago and a devoted sister-in-law - like daughter, Johnnie Mae Herbert (George) of Saluda, SC; one sister, Lannie Mae Lindsey of Saluda, SC; devoted niece, Tammy Scurry(Pervis) of Johnston, SC; devoted nephews, Albert Abney, Washington , DC and Willie Abney (Rev. Irene), Saluda, SC; and a devoted caregiver, Georgia Faye Hall, Saluda, SC; children she help raise, Reverend Joe (Nicky) Long, Sr., Charles Long and Carlene Long Temple all of Saluda, SC; her best friends, Bishop Gene Stewart of Maryland, the late Martha Robinson and Ellesteen Watson, Batesburg, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held to honor her Life 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Lockhart Baptist Church conducted by Reverend Herman Jenkins, Eulogist and Reverend Irene Abney - Presiding and other assisting. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.
Family viewing 10-11 a.m. and public viewing 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of her sister, Lannie Mae Lindsey, 1724 Fruit Hill Road, Saluda, SC.
