Regena Mathis

Saluda, SC:  Regena Mathis, 78, of 1459 Bonham Road, departed this life on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at her home.

She was born in Washington, DC., daughter of the late Johnny B. Mathis and the late Mary Smith Mathis, January 15, 1943.  She was educated in the public schools of Saluda County, South Carolina.

At an early age, she joined Mine Creek Baptist Church and later in life she moved her membership to Penn Creek Baptist Church. 

In addition to her parents, she also preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Ann Simpkins; siblings, Ben, Johnny, Joseph, Chris and Benjamin Mathis, Essie Dell Burton, Laura Minick, and Mary Lou Carroll.

Regena was humble and wore a beautiful smile and she will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish and honor her memory; sons, Allen Ronnie (Dorothy) Mathis, Jerome (Latina) Mathis, Preduo (Teresa) Mathis all of Saluda, SC, Calvin Mathis of Thompson, GA and James (April) Mathis of Edgefield, SC; daughter, Katina Mathis of Saluda, SC; twenty-one grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren; brother, Henry Mathis of Aiken, SC; sisters, Barbara (Tommy) Cheatham and Lula Mae Weaver both of Saluda, SC; two god-daughters, Anita Jackson and Sarah (Charles) Etheredge both of Saluda, SC; son-in-law, Jimmy Simpkins of Johnston, SC; sister-in-law, Louise Mathis of Saluda, SC; a host of nieces, nephew, other relatives and sorrowing friends.

A Graveside Service to Celebrate her Life will be 2 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Penn Creek Baptist Church. Viewing will be Wednesday, 11 AM to 7 PM  at the funeral home.

The family is at the home.
