Saluda, SC: Thomas Jefferson (Buck) Pace 73, 4200 Old Charleston Road, the widower of Mamie Barnes Pugh passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Self Regional HealthCare after declining health.
He was born in Saluda, SC, on November 9, 1950, son of the late Willie Morris and Carrie Lou Mobley Pace. He received his education in the public schools of Saluda County, SC, where he graduated from Riverside High School in 1970. At an early age he joined Young Mt. Zion Baptist Church and later united with Poplar Branch Baptist Church to worshipped with his wife the late Mamie Barnes Pace. During his working life he worked many different jobs and his last employment was in security at Amick Farms where he retired after many years of service. He loved sports and his favorite was football.
He was affectionately called "Buck" by his family and friends and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Janice P. Dozier and Margaret M. Springs.
Buck leaves his many memories to be cherished and honored to; Ericka Etheredge (niece whom was reared as a daughter) of the home; two sons Timmie Pace of Greenwood, SC and Tonnie Pace of Spartanburg, SC; three grandchildren, Kenyon Pace, Dedrick Pace and Jada Boyd;; sisters, Willie Pearl (Warren) Black of Johnston, SC, Frances Carkeer and Reverend Sue Golston both of Detroit, MI; brothers, James (Susan) Pace of Newberry, SC and Governor Frank (Sara) Pace of Saluda, SC; an aunt, Janie M. Bonham of Saluda, SC: sister-in-law, Betty Ann Etheredge of Goldsboro, NC; brothers-in-law, Roy (Marilyn) Barnes and Melvin (Jean) Barnes both of Saluda, SC and Benjamin (Lucille) Barnes of Lanham, MD; nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
A Celebration of Life will be 12 p.m. Friday at Young Mt. Zion Baptist Church with burial in Poplar Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the at 11:00 a.m.
Viewing will Thursday at the funeral home, Family viewing 1-2 p.m. and public viewing 2-6 p.m.
