Oxon Hill, MD: Mr. Tommie Lee Jones, Jr. son of the late Tommie Lee Jones, Sr. and the late Frances Ola Settles Jones Wright was born on February 22, 1943, in Edgefield County, SC. After his failing he became a resident of Manor Care. On Sunday, April 12, 2020 (Resurrection Sunday) God saw fit to transition him from this life into eternal rest in Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, VA.
He received his education in the public schools of Edgefield County, South Carolina.
At an early age, he joined the Liberty Spring Baptist Church where he was a faithful member until moving out of state and after moving out of state he never forgot about his home church where he would return for Homecoming and other special occasions. He was also a member of the Men’s Aide Society.
In 1960, he moved to Washington, DC and later he migrated to Maryland. In 1962, he untied in Holy Matrimony to Queen Ethel Tolbert Jones who preceded him in death. To this union one child was born.
He worked for the Department of Highway and Traffic where he retired after twenty-five years of service. Later he gained employment with Safe Way where he worked until becoming disabled.
He became a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where he was a faithful member. He sang in the choir and was faithful of other Ministries of the church. He served as president of Fannie Robes Reunion DC Chapter from 1980 until. He was the Historian of his family. He was a great Fisherman. He was affectionately called “Bo” by his family and friends. He never met a stranger and he loved his family and loved people. He loved to share his wisdom and knowledge with others. He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, wife and stepfather, James Edgar Wright; he was also preceded in death by his siblings, Frances Lee Jones, James Earl Jones and John David Jones; step-siblings, Ernest Wright, Cornelia Spearman and Charles E. Wright.
He leaves to cherish and honor his memory; a loving and devoted daughter, Phyllis Denise Logan, Waldorf, MD and daughter, Wanda (Timothy) Baker, Quince, MA; three grandchildren, Quola Baker, Jamool Baker and Jermaine Baker and one great-grand, Troy Baker; three sisters, Geneva Jones Stevens, Plum Branch, SC, Mary (Willie) Moton, Edgefield, SC and Alice Vaughn, Augusta, GA; step-sisters, Dorothy Chiles, McCormick, and Annie Ruth (David) Murcier, Troy; step-brothers, Cecil (Elizabeth) Wright, McCormick and Willie Mack (Annie Ruth) Wright, Greenwood; seven sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law; special nieces and nephews, Berlinda, Melissa, Valerie, Jemika, Jennifer, Quincy, Willie and Duane; godchildren, DeeDran, Tanya, India, Keirsten, Kayla and Christopher; three special cousins, Willie Rufus Bland, John L. Settles and Dr. Diana Lanier Smith; and a host of other close relatives, extended family and sorrowing friends who will miss him dearly.
