Deacon Ulysses Freeman
Troy, SC: Deacon Ulysses Freeman, 78, of 9601 US Hwy 25 South, the husband of Alberta Jackson Freeman, passed away at Self Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Edgefield County, son of the late Cleveland and Inez Settles Freeman Haskell Brown. He was a faithful member of the Springfield Baptist church where he served as assistant Chairman of Deacons, Sexton, Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Teacher and former Church Clerk. He was also a member of Moores Masonic Lodge #68 and received his education in the public schools of Edgefield County, South Carolina.
Ulysses was a veteran of the US Army. He worked for many years, until retirement at Greenwood Mills - Chalmers Plant where he became first black supervisor.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Alberta Freeman and Luetricia Freeman Sprowl.
Those whom he leaves to cherish and honor his precious memories; his wife for 50 years, Alberta J. Freeman of the home;sons, Clayton (Jonetta) Dorn of Raleigh, NC and Terence (Francien) Freeman of Lake Wylie, SC; daughters, Gwendolyn (Ricky) Chiles of McCormick, SC, Dr. Tonjua Freeman of Orlando, FLA and Tamiya (Charles) Fisher of Virginia Beach, VA; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; sister, Brenda (Charles) Freeman-Behlin of Trenton, SC; step-sisters, Verda (Thomas) Murcier, Mamie L. Harrison, Carrie Freeman; step-brothers, Roosevelt Haskell, Curtis (Margaret) Haskell, Reverend Robert (Varrie) Haskell, Reverend Willie Haskell and George (Juanita) Brown; mother-in-law, Izetta Jackson; sisters-in-law, Nellie(Heyward) Bussey and Ozell (Michael) Richardson; aunt, Shirley Allen; uncle, Emanuel Spearman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends who will miss him dearly.
Homegoing Celebration will be held 12 Noon Wednesday 4/25/18 at Springfield Baptist Church conducted by the pastor, Reverend C. M. Myers with others assisting. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 11:00 a.m.
Viewing will be Tuesday 1-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Visitation will be 7-8 at the funeral home.
