Warren Butler, Sr. Obituary

THE LIFE & LEGACY OF

   Warren Butler, Sr.

Warren Butler, Sr., son of the late Jetto and Rebecca (Simpkins) Henley, and the late Richard Butler, was born on June 7, 1946, in Philadelphia, PA, and made his earthly transition on July 26, 2024, at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, SC.

At an early age, he joined Lockhart Baptist Church in Saluda, SC, and later in life moved his membership to Mt. Enon Baptist Church also located in Saluda, SC, where he served as Superintendent.

He was a 1965 graduate of Riverside High School, and shortly after graduation he was drafted into the United States Army where he served during the Vietnam War. Upon his return home, he attended Gupton Jones Mortuary School where he became a licensed Mortician and joined his uncle and aunt (Robert and Catherine Butler) in the family business, Butler and Sons Funeral Home. After the death of his uncle and aunt, Warren and his wife, Almastine became the owners continued to grow the family business.  With the help of their two sons, Warren Jr., and Richard working along with them, they have successfully carried out the inherited vision for Butler and Sons.

Warren the Husband~ He and his wife would travel the east coast on his beloved, Harley Davidson visiting family and friends along the way.  He enjoyed life, people and had the gift of gab.   As we know, Warren could “walk-the-talk”.  He promised his wife a new home, and that too became his second mission.  While spending tireless hours at the funeral home, he would then find the energy to continue work with his hands---not on bodies, but rather on building the new family home from ground up.

Warren the Renaissance man~ He was always seeking ways to improve the quality of life for his family.  He and the late Robert F. (Bob) Bowles, Sr. were the first Certified EMTS for the Saluda County Ambulance Service. With his business influence, he served for many years on the Saluda Nursing Home Board, and in turn, they honored him by naming the cafeteria the “Bulter” cafeteria.  As a promient community leader,  he worked with the SC Disaster Preparedness Agency,  the Upper Savannah Council of Government, the GLEAMS Board, and a host of other organizations.  Most importantly, he was a member of the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, Inc., the South Carolina Morticians Association, Inc. for Congressional District Three and a Lifetime Member of the NAACP.

Warren the friend ~ He was affectionately called "June Bug" by his family and friends.  Warren loved to talk—with his vast knowledge and wisdom  you could oftentimes  leave the conversation in deep thought, feeling perplexed, or feeling inspired.  His infectious smile and hearty laugh were often used in a myriad of conversations whether lite fan-fare or in depth, heartfelt talks.  He has left indelible memories that will be cherished by his family, friends, community, and colleagues forever.

He leaves behind many precious memories to his wife, Almastine P. Butler of the home; sons, Warren Butler, Jr., Richard Butler, and Demani (DJ) Bosket of Saluda, SC; daughters, Alice Adams Price of Aiken, SC, Ja'Nice Patterson of Sumter, SC, and Ndia Patterson of Saluda, SC; grandchildren Ayanna, Franklin, Jaliyah, Kingston, Tahj, Modesty, Jaelyn, Kayson, Ziyon, Paris, Liam, Bray, Jeremiah, Christian, Myles, Tiara, and Kehlani; brothers, William (Debbie) Henley of Johnston, SC, Timothy (Tommessia) Henley of Batesburg, SC and Howard Butler of Columbia, SC; sisters, Annie (Charlie) Davis of Saluda, SC and Catherine H.
